It was a comprehensive win for Woodford Town, who secured a place in the hat for the next round of the Isuzu FA Vase after a 6-0 victory at Ashton’s Stadium on Friday night!
Shane Baptiste’s side started the game on top, and came close to breaking the deadlock on numerous occasions in the opening stages of the half, however they couldn’t quite apply the correct finishing touch. The breakthrough did come eventually though…Nathan Sollosi was released in behind the defence on the right hand side and he picked out the bottom corner with a beautiful strike across goal.
Just ten minutes later, the tricky attacker was at it again. Alex Bolovan breezed past the visitors’ midfield before picking out Sollosi in behind and this time, a deft dink was enough to beat the keeper and double the lead on the half hour mark, giving the Woods a comfortable two-goal cushion at the break.
The hosts started the second half as they ended the first – on top and looking for a sucker punch to give them further breathing space in the tie. With eleven minutes of the second half played, Kahlil Kirwan-Meade scored and Woodford led 3-0. With matches coming thick and fast, manager Baptiste turned towards his substitutes bench; David Gokou came on to make his debut, whilst fellow substitute Oscar Onuorah made a huge impact on the reminder of the contest.
A brilliant ball over the top saw Onourah latch onto it, passing it around the onrushing goalkeeper and into the corner. In the 91st minute, he scored again! Once more, Woodford beat the offside trap to get in behind the Enfield borough defence, before the ball was squared to Onourah who smashed home from just outside the six-yard box. The Woods weren’t done there, as with 94 minutes on the clock, Alex Bolovan added his name to the scoresheet.
Overall, a superb performance from Shane Baptiste’s side and a huge victory as Woodford find themselves into the hat for the next round and one step closer to a date at Wembley!
