Following a goalless draw after ninety minutes, The Woods progress to the Third Round of the London Senior Cup, with a penalty shootout victory against Isthmian League Premier Division opposition in Hendon FC.
It was the hosts who got off to the better start, with Chaynie Burgin squandering a golden opportunity after just seven minutes. He raced towards goal, but his shot went just wide of the post. Further chances came throughout the opening 45-minutes, with Nathan Sollosi seeing an effort comfortably saved by Campbell in Hendon's net, before Sam Owusu's long throw caused chaos, leading to a goal-line clearance.
After the interval, Burgin, again, came close with two chances. First, he saw his header saved, before he came close to scoring what would surely have been the goal of the season, in September! The forward picked up the ball 40-yards out, turned before attempting to lob Campbell, who had to scramble backwards to tip it over the crossbar.
The remainder of the second half was rather dull, as Baptiste opted to make four switches to his side, but we couldn't find a way through Hendon's back-line. With nine minutes remaining, the visitors came awfully close to snatching the tie away from us, yet somehow the shot went wide, meaning we headed for a penalty shootout.
At a soggy Ashton's, substitute Joshua Banfield stepped up first and confidently converted his spot-kick to give us the early advantage. Burgin, Micah Jackson and fellow substitute David Gokou all scored to keep up our 100 per-cent record from the spot, but our step three opponents also scored every time.
That was until their fourth penalty, where it was blazed over the bar, gifting Dion Johnston a chance to wrap up proceedings. Yet another substitute in the match, the right-back put his penalty miss from a few weeks ago behind him, to step up and win the tie for Woodford!
