Ashton's witnesses a stunning display under the lights!

The biggest win of the season against White Ensign saw Woodford Town close the gap on league leaders Stanway Rovers to just three points, with two games in hand.

Things couldn't have got off to a better start for Shane Baptiste's side, who took the lead with just three minutes on the clock. Josh Banfield, who pulled the strings in midfield from start to finish, clattered a volley off the post, before David Gokou was pulled down after reaching the loose ball first.

Up stepped Marko Protic, who saw his penalty hit the frame of the goal, but luckily Normand Kebi reacted quickest to prod home the rebound and give Woodford an early breakthrough.

The perfect start continued just over a quarter of an hour later, with Miles Mitchell-Nelson doubling the lead. Josh Banfield whipped in a corner to the back post, where the defender was on hand to rise highest and head home for 2-0. The referee using help from his assistant to judge whether or not the ball crossed the line.

Just before the half-hour mark, The Woods began to pull away from the visitors. Another Banfield corner caused mayhem in the box, and after failing to clear their lines, the ball fell for Gokou who lashed a volley past Bradley Davison. That goal capped off an electrifying opening 30 minutes from the winger, who had been causing all sorts of issues down the left.

However, the amount of first-half goals were yet to be capped. After playing a part in all three of the goals, Josh Banfield finally got in on the act himself, in similar fashion to how he helped create the opener. A right-footed volley arrowed towards the top corner, but this time the net rippled. Shane Baptsiste's men headed into the half-time break with a four-goal cushion.

At the culmination of the break, Ensign may have been hoping for respite, but Woodford continued to rub salt in the wounds after a terrifying first-half display. Within the first six minutes after the interval, Nathan Sollosi had fired just over the bar, and he was then denied by a terrific, last-ditch sliding tackle.

With sixteen minutes to go, Marko Protic kept up his hot run of form, scoring his fourth goal in as many matches. Our number nine beat his marker and headed home from inside the six-yard box at the near post. The assist - you guessed it, Josh Banfield with another exquisite corner.

Less than a minute later, six - with that goal summing up the visitors' disastrous showing at Ashton's. An incredible solo goal saw Sollosi split the defence open, before keeping his cool to slot a finish across Davison and into the bottom corner.

There were to be no more goals, much to the happiness of the White Ensign players and coaching staff, who travelled back to Essex, having been torn apart in the capital.
