Match Report: Woodford Town 2-1 Frenford

Harrison Nathan14 Dec - 18:00

Despite a nervy ending, two goals in the first half were enough to secure a sixth victory in a row for Woodford Town.

Proceedings got underway with the hosts well on top, and they took the lead after just seven minutes. Bruno Tavares flicked it round the corner for Nathan Sollosi, and the winger thumped a half-volley across the turf and into the bottom corner!

The bright start continued after the breakthrough, with Kahlil Kirwan-Meade getting in behind after a great bit of trickery, he saw his low cross nearly end up in the back of the net, with Simon Peddie’s clearance skewing over the crossbar.

With seventeen minutes on the clock, The Woods doubled their lead. From the resultant corner, the ball was only cleared as far as Bruno Tavares on the edge of the box, and the striker thumped a volley past Kasey Clark and right into the roof of the net! 2-0.

Chances continued to flow for Woodford, and Josh Banfield should have added a third less than a minute after the hosts doubled their lead, before Sollosi was denied his second of the night due to the offside flag.

At the beginning of the second half, the story was the same. David Gokou should have scored, but for a remarkable save by Clark in the Frenford goal, after Miles Mitchell-Nelson had wrapped a sumptuous ball across the face of goal. Sollosi was then denied again, this time by the frame of the goal, with his thunderous attempt smashing off the post.

In the space of five minutes, Shane Baptiste opted to use all five of his substitutes, and this gave the visitors a slight edge over their dominant hosts. Just a minute after the completed of all changes, Frenford pulled one back.

A never ending ensued, but The Woods held on to make sure they picked up another victory, making it six in a row and moving closer to leaders Stanway Rovers.
