Shane Baptiste’s men started the game on top, with Max Harbrow, David Gokou and Steven Carvell all firing close inside the opening twelve minutes.
However, things soon changed and the momentum of the game swung. The visitors began to get a lot more joy from pressing higher up the pitch. They forced Manny Agboola into a number of hood saves, before Woodford’s Micah Jackson came close just before the break, narrowly missing the target with a curling effort.
In the second half, Romford continued to create chances and test just how resolute the hosts’ defence - which is the best in the league - really can be. Agboola made even more great stops, with the highlight being a wonderful low dive to his left to deny a certain goal from ten-yards out.
With the game looking like it would pater out into a goalless snooze fest, Normand Kebi came up with a moment of magic. The midfield received the ball from substitute Ernest Okoh and let an effort fly towards goal, with the ball nestling into the top corner to send Ashton’s delirious!
The three points will be crucial to Shane Baptiste’s side, who face leaders Stanway Rovers up next in a top of the table clash at Ashton’s!
