The Woods suffered an opening day defeat to perennial bogey team West Essex.
The Woodford fans created a wonderful atmosphere at Wadham Lodge and were on their feet 12 minutes in after Umar Ali was played in by Billy Swaine, cooly firing home from 12 yards.

Shane Baptiste’s new look team continued to dominate large swathes of the half and a 2nd goal before the interval wouldn’t have flattered them.
If Woodford dominated the 1st half, the 2nd was the exact opposite. Whatever advise the West Essex Management had given worked wonders as they looked a completely different side literally from the kick off.
An equaliser wasn’t long coming from the home side with a low drive evading Michael Corderoy after a period of sustained pressure.
Such was the home side’s dominance The Woods were now looking to hold onto a point, it wasn’t to be as 10 minutes from time a well worked free kick fell nicely and another crisp finish meant opening day heartache for the Woods and their superb travelling support.

Thoughts now turn to producing a FA Cup giant killing as we visit Waltham Abbey next Saturday.
